7th Grade & 8th Grade ELAR 2024-2025

Course Description

 

In 7th and 8th grade ELAR students will gain a better understanding of literature and the use of the English language.  Classes will focus on response to literature (fiction, non-fiction, poetry) by developing a deeper understanding of literature elements.  This will include the genre and structure of the text, author's style and purpose, figurative language and literary  devises used, as well as theme, and characterization.  Vocabulary instruction will emphasize Greek and Latin roots, in conjunction with common prefixes and suffixes.  We will focus on narrative, expository, persuasive, and procedural writing with an emphasis on correct sentence structure, style, and grammar.
